"Building exhibitions have always been “housing exhibitions” as well. All international building exhibitions over the last hundred years have considered housing to be a central theme. This is also illustrated by the IBA Emscher Park with its housing and settlement projects, even if its international visibility is more attributable to projects relating to industrial culture and industrial nature, and the Ruhr region has taken on an international pioneering role with these flagship projects."
