#7 11 X 17 Faculty

A faculty of architecture and spatial planning needs a shared commitment to developing and maintaining liveable places.

"Since the establishment of separate planning faculties, spatial planners and architects have been arguing about the true teachings of urban planning. It is about content and skills that should be part of the self-image of urban planning education. The boundaries between the two disciplines have become entrenched, and cooperation is rare. The ‘Cologne Declaration’ has caused the waves of controversy to rise even higher. Instead of seeing this appeal as an opportunity to engage in a productive discourse on the best possible education, the rifts between architects and spatial planners are being further widened and deepened – rifts that urgently need to be overcome in view of the acute challenges facing cities."
