Rudolf Scheuvens and Ute Schneider talk to Anamarija Batista, Angelika Fitz and Ben Pohl about the need for new uses, the use and value of existing buildings, the importance of time and the need to talk to all stakeholders.
Rudolf Scheuvens is Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning. Anamarija Batista is an interdisciplinary researcher and curator who works at the intersection of art, architecture and economics. In 2012, she began her project "Artist as Spatial Planner" at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. As part of the research project "The Obsolete City," in which she collaborated as a research partner with an interdisciplinary team, they addressed the danger of vacant, unused and underused spaces in large cities. Angelika Fitz, Director of the Architekturzentrum Wien since 2017, she was awarded the Julius Posener Prize in 2022. She also curated the Austrian contribution to the Architecture Biennale in Sao Paulo in 2003 and 2005. Her exhibitions include "We-Traders" and "Actopolis". Ben Pohl, Urban designer and communication designer at Denkstatt Sàrl in Basel, he is an experienced lecturer and has been working since 2016 in the core areas of socio-spatial development concepts, dialog formats, and urban communication. He applies his repertoire of scientific and design methods to engage productively across various levels of urban life. Among other roles, he has served as a senior research associate at ETH Zurich and as a research associate at the HafenCity University (HCU) in Hamburg. He is currently involved with B/IAS “Basel Institute for Applied Urban Research,” focusing on transdisciplinary knowledge transfer for the public-good-oriented development of cities.
