Vages Terrain
Where will we live? Where will we be when we work or relax, and who or what will decide that? How will we spread out across a damaged planet, and where will what be available to whom?
Jerome Becker, Gunnar Grandel, Madlyn Miessgang, Mathias Mitteregger, and Sebastian Sattlegger addressed these questions as part of the Real Estate & Location Development Fellowship at the future.lab at TU Wien. With their anthology Vages Terrain, now published by TU Wien Academic Press, they invite readers to abandon familiar perspectives and take a fresh look at what choosing a location in the city of tomorrow might look like. To this end, various contributors were invited to explore seven concepts of apparent permanence in essays, interviews, or artistic contributions: freedom, fear, chaos, tolerance, prestige, permanence, and fake. The book does not present a linear narrative, but invites readers to skim and reread. It thus shows fragments of a location choice for the day after tomorrow that, instead of clear predictions, challenge readers to make their own connections.
