#28 Feeling 1:1, Researching 1:1, Implementing 1:1 – The Landuni Drosendorf
Episode #28 focuses on the unique aspects of a practice-oriented teaching approach at landuni Drosendorf as a lived space for heritage and building stock transformation.
For this, Larissa Benk and Madlyn Miessgang speak with Sibylla Zech and Benjamin Altrichter from the Department of Regional Planning and Regional Development, as well as Drosendorf resident Susanne Meiringer. The discussion explores how new teaching formats and the activities surrounding landuni create opportunities for students, researchers, and local residents to gain new perspectives.
The conversation covers the origins of the landuni idea, the impulses it has already set in motion, and its potential future impact. It also expands the understanding of “building stock” to include not only spatial but also cultural and social dimensions.
Sibylla Zech is a spatial planner and professor of Regional Planning and Regional Development at TU Wien. As one of the initiators of landuni, she knows and harnesses the opportunities of teaching, learning, and researching outdoors in real-world settings. Her planning and research focus areas include urban and regional development, building culture, ecologically and socio-culturally oriented spatial planning, communicative planning processes, and cross-border collaboration.
Susanne Meiringer is a folklorist and art historian. She became familiar with the municipality of Drosendorf-Zissersdorf through summer retreats, where she and her family ran a farm and still live today. Professionally, she worked at the Stadtmuseum Waidhofen/Thaya. Today, she is active in several associations, works as a city guide in Drosendorf, and volunteers at the Weltladen in Horn.
Benjamin Altrichter is an architect and project assistant at TU Wien. He is co-founder of the association Die Ruranauten – Pioneers for a New Rural Building Culture and has been a board member of LandLuft since 2022. His practice and research focus on participatory transformation processes in rural areas and raising awareness of building culture.
