FIELD TRIPS 2024: Old Buildings – New Ideas
In the summer semester of 2024, the ‘Field Trips – Transformation of Existing Buildings’ course will focus on the topic of social innovation in existing urban and building structures. The course will take students to seven European cities where creative reuse and forward-looking conversion processes are taking place. Against the backdrop of the climate crisis and the need to conserve resources, the research teams will examine how buildings and spaces can be used in new, more sustainable ways.
Field research on site provides intensive insights into various transformation processes – from a disused freight station in Aarhus to a former judicial hospital in Naples. The focus is not only on the structural and spatial aspects, but above all on the social processes behind them: new forms of organisation and use, changing roles of actors and collaborative approaches to urban development.
