Gemeinschaftliches Wohnen und Selbst-Organisiertes Bauen
Communal living and self-organised construction offer new answers to the current challenges in housing. For many years, building groups and housing projects in numerous countries have gained experience in communal planning, developed new housing formats, and tested unconventional forms of communal living. This is particularly true of initiatives that develop and utilize communal forms of living with self-organized planning processes, non-profit management, and collective responsibility.
This publication aims to show how niches within the capitalist system can be exploited and what other approaches are available. In addition to articles on housing and construction in the narrower sense, there are also articles on commons, solidarity economies, property, decommodification, and alternative financing instruments. The volume was produced as part of a fellowship at the TU Wien on the topic of “New Social Housing.”
