Urbane Transformation durch soziale Innovation

Schlüsselbegriffe und Perspektiven

The transformation to sustainability is high on the agenda of European cities. In order to successfully manage this fundamental and far-reaching change, it is necessary to agree on terms and concepts. These too are subject to change, are used and interpreted in different ways, negotiated socially, questioned, rejected, forgotten and rediscovered.

This anthology aims to contribute to conceptual clarity while opening up new perspectives for practical and scientific engagement with urban transformation. Taking into account diverse and even controversial positions, the authors each focus on a key concept. The emphasis on social innovation – itself an ambiguous concept that warrants critical discussion – was chosen in order to challenge the still dominant technology- and economy-centred approaches and thus expand the scope for sustainable approaches to urban transformation.
