#11 Quartier als Ressource

Public infrastructure, supportive neighbourhoods and local economies: the urban policy dimension of housing.

"Last year, the first of the so-called “neighbourhood houses” was completed in Vienna's Sonnwendviertel district, and ten more will follow in the course of this year and the coming years. While the upper floors are mainly intended for residential use, the buildings are designed to open up the neighbourhood, particularly on the ground floor but also beyond, and to interact with each other to form an infrastructure that will revitalise the new neighbourhood. This approach fits into Vienna's building culture in its own unique way, combining tried-and-tested methods and typologies with thoroughly innovative elements."
