3.2 Scientific support services

In this section, you will find information about scientific support services provided by TU Wien. Depending on whether and in which employment position a doctoral candidate is, different regulations will apply with regard to access to offers and funding.

Scientific, personal and didactic competence development

WINA+ funding programme
The TU Wien’s Human Resources Development Department offers support through the two-year WINA+ programme to university assistants in temporary pre-doc positions and to project assistants. Doctoral candidates who are not employed by the TU Wien are given the opportunity to book remaining places. The coaching cycle supports networking, goal attainment, scientific writing, time management, and career planning. Further information can be found in the folders download area. The German-language programme cycle starts in the winter term, while in the summer term, the programme cycle is in English. You can register through the Internal Training Programme Catalogue in TISS.

Focus:teaching —Higher Education Didactics Offers
At the TU, teaching as a form of dissemination of research findings is becoming increasingly important. At the centre of the strategic teaching development of the TU Wien, pre-docs are offered didactics in higher education training.

Research ethics

Since 2023, the Service Unit of Responsible Research Practices has been assisting researchers at the TU Wien as regards matters of research ethics and scientific integrity. Good scientific practice features a variety of requirements, but scientific misconduct, on the other hand, entails consequences. These checklists can help you identify elements of your work with research ethics implications. In the TU Wien's Rules for ensuring good scientific practice, you will find further information regarding good scientific practice, as well as in the Guidelines of the ÖAWI (Austrian Agency for Research Integrity). If you have any questions about research ethics, please ask your supervisor to get in touch with the Service Unit of Responsible Research Practices to obtain some advice.

Research data management at the TU Wien

The TU Wien has set up a Centre for Research Data Management, which assists you as a TU researcher with dealing with research data. If you wish to manage, store, share or publish your data, the FDM research data management services are available to you.

Publication of articles

The TU Wien Library provides support to researchers wishing to publish articles. Support is provided as regards contracts with institutions and publishers, article-processing fees, and legal issues.

Personal identifier for research activities: ORCID iD

The TU Wien Library promotes the use of ORCID iDs. ORCID iD is used to uniquely assign and identify researchers and their publications. This simplifies publication management. This service is reserved for doctoral candidates who are employed by the TU Wien. Currently, the ORCID iD can only be entered in TISS and is synchronized in the reposiTUm. A solution for doctoral students who are not employed by the TU is in preparation. For more information, please click here.

Copy-editing service for doctoral students

The TU Wien Library supports doctoral candidates not only in promoting Gold Open Access but also in utilizing English proofreading services. For more information on the proofreading service for doctoral candidates, please see Manuscript and Proofreading.
